Hon. Anter Bayak Kuol (born 28 January 1996) is a South Sudanese politician who has worked in various institutions and profiles in Jonglei State and South Sudan at large. He has been a Member of Parliament (MP) [1] in the transitional legislative assembly of Jonglei State that was established in accordance with the Revitalised Peace Agreement in South Sudan.[2][3] .

Early life and education

Bayak was born on 28 January 1996 in Buongjok Boma of Duk Padiet Payam in Duk County, Jonglei State during the second Sudanese Civil War. He hails from a subsection of Dinka called Hol, especially Duor Ethnic community of Duk County in Jonglei State.

Bayak grew up in South Sudan and later to Kenya and had since travelled to different countries. Academically, completed his high school in South Sudan (2018) at Malek Secondary school in Bor, Jonglei state. He later did a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical studies and community development outreach graduating in 2022 at the Nation to Nation Christian University N2NCU USA. He has been pursuing other studies including the bachelor's degree in law (LLB) at Starford International University (SIU).

Career

In his social and political career, he has participated in community leaderships as the chairperson of the Duk Padiet Youth Association (2019-2021) in Duk County and participated in other community social activities such as youth electoral activities among others. As an activist and a youth advocate, Bayak has reportedly spearheaded change and advocacy for youth empowerment and opportunities including timely payment of civil servants among others, which is term as the reason for discord between him and his party.[4][5] He is reportedly a contributor and participants of different forums and civil society groups in South Sudan and Africa including as seen on the Focus Africa Series Facebook, serving as Country Director for South Sudan Focus Africa Series (unverified-Facebook page cited only subject to further verification).[6] During his tenure as an MP for Duk Constituency, he has condemned violence issues happening in the area and called for peace and reconciliation.[7]

Apart from the socio-political career, Bayak as also is reported to have worked in the humanitarian and development spheres, supporting the vulnerable people and contributing to the greater good of the communities in Jonglei State for a number of years. These includes but not limited to working with International NGOs Safety Organizations (INSO) for three years, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) supporting health programs in Duk Padiet, Catholic Relief Service (CRS) and (Medical and Global Nutrition Aid) MAGNA among others. Bayak is reported to have worked with Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Kakuma, Kenya when he was there as a refugee. He is currently serving as a member and head of Public Relations and Engagement at the Board of Directors, CETOCIL University in South Sudan[8] and also reportedly support his community of Duk on social issues including resources mobilization locally as a Deputy Project Manager for the Kadiang Resettlement Development Committee, a committee reportedly set up by the Duk County community to mobilize resources and fundraise to save the flood devastated community members in the area and also ensure the affected one are resettle to highland (Kadiang Boma) areas (no sepecific source - local community social activities) of Payuel payam in Duk County, Jonglei State includig the returning population.

Personal life

Bayak has two wives, reportedly married in July 2014 and October 2018 respectively. He has three children with his first wife, Nyajany Chuol Puok, and two children with his second wife, Monica Nyaluak Matiop.
