Chinmoy Kashyap (born February 2, 1998) is an Indian filmmaker, producer, and singer renowned for his contributions to Hindi cinema. He started his career working as an assistant director for various Bollywood films, television series, and commercials. He has directed commercials for prominent brands such as Nestle Kit-Kat, Maggie, and Nestle Coffee.[1]

Kashyap is also a singer, debuting with the single "Kaccha Sa Rishta" in 2020. Other music works include "Talaash," "Niyoror Tupal," and the acclaimed rendition of Arun Das’s "Tumi Janu."[2]

Early life and education

Kashyap was born to Nareswar Das, a playwright and government officer, and Chitralekha Baruah Das, a playback singer and All India Radio artist, in Guwahati, Assam. Growing up in a creative environment, Kashyap developed an early interest in music and filmmaking. During his schooling, he completed his Visharad in tabla and became proficient in various Assamese folk instruments, including Nagara, Kohl, Pepa, and Dhul.

At 15, Kashyap started his career as a professional editor. In 2016, he relocated to Mumbai to pursue higher education in filmmaking. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Filmmaking from a prestigious film school of Mumbai in 2019.

Career

Kashyap began his career in the film industry as an assistant director on various Hindi films. He later transitioned to directing advertisements, where he demonstrated his creative vision and technical proficiency.[3] He has worked as an editor for notable brands like Nestle Kit-Kat, Nestle Coffee, and Maggie. Over the years, he has directed over 35 advertisements, earning recognition for his distinctive style and storytelling abilities.[4][5]

Kashyap has served as an assistant director for several TV serials, series, and short films, including "Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi," "Adaalat," "Ek Deewana Tha," "Yours Truly," "Barot House," and "Cabaret."[6][7]

In 2024, Kashyap established his production house, Axom Motion Pictures, producing feature films, web series, and advertisements.[8][9]

Beyond filmmaking, Kashyap is also a singer, debuting in 2020 with the single "Kaccha Sa Rishta." He has gained recognition for his rendition of the late singer Arun Das's iconic song "Tumi Janu," released in 2024.[10][11]
