Jack Morgan Podlesny (born March 16, 2000) is an American football placekicker for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Early years
Podlesny was born in Brunswick, Georgia on March 16, 2000 and grew up in St. Simon's Island, Georgia. He attended Glynn Academy, becoming a varsity athlete in soccer and football. Podlesny played football his freshman year but took a break his sophomore year to focus on soccer before returning his junior year, taking on a backup role. He earned starting kicking duties his senior year, helping the Terrors become 3-6A region champions and reach the Final Four in the 6A playoffs.[1] Podlesny finished the season field goals and 49/51 on PATs, with 55 of his 61 kickoffs resulting in a touchback while averaging 40.4 yards on 31 punts totaling 1,234 yards.[2] He was named to the all-region team for his efforts.[3]
He garnered interest from multiple colleges after his senior season, including Georgia Tech, Columbia, Michigan Wolverines football, UNC, and Mercer, but ultimately chose to walk on at Georgia.
College career
2018 season
2018 Georgia Bulldogs football team redshirted his freshman year and did not see any action on the field.
2019 season
2019 Georgia Bulldogs football team Podlesny saw his first action with team in the 2019 G-Day Spring game. He attempted two field goals, making a 38-yarder to seal a 22-17 victory for the Red team.[4] He did not see any action in the regular season.
2020 season
2020 Georgia Bulldogs football teamThe departure of star kicker Rodrigo Blankenship and arrival of new special teams coordinator Scott Cochran paved the way for an open competition for the starting kicking job. Following summer and fall camp, Podlesny and freshman Jared Zirkel became the top contenders for the job, with head coach Kirby Smart calling the competition "up for grabs" .[5] Podlesny saw his first regular season action in Week 1 against Arkansas. He made both of his field goal attempts and all three of his PAT attempts, while also having 5 of 6 kickoffs go for touchbacks.[6]
In Week 3 against Tennessee, Podlesny went 3 for 3 on field goals, including a then career high 51-yarder. He was named a Lou Groza Star of the Week for his play.[7] Punter Jake Camarda took control of kickoff duties after this game. Later in the season, Podlesny was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award.[8]
In the 2021 Peach Bowl, Podlesny made all three of his field goal attempts, including the game winner from 53 yards out with less than 5 seconds left in the game. He was awarded the Peach Bowl Offensive MVP, the first kicker to do so since 1995.[9]
Podlesny finished the season 13/16 on FGs and a perfect 38/38 on PATs, with 21 kickoffs resulting in 12 touchbacks.[10]
