Leo Louis Chabot was a Photo Journalist and Newspaper Editor, also served on the Zoning Task Forse and the Historical Society in North Andover, Massachusetts

Early Life

Leo Louis Chabot born to Father ~ Leonide Louis Chabot Born 14 September, 1907 in Saint Henediene, de Beuce, Providence Quebec, Canada Dead October, 1994 at Nursing Home in Scarborough, Maine, US. He was in the restaurant business and retired from 3) Howard Johnson's|Howard Johnson’s restaurant, during the Great Depression he had a 31) Restaurant on Main St in Kennebunk Maine, he helped the homeless with food during the Great Depression with the restaurant he operated. It was part of a government subsidy program during the Great Depression. It was located on the corner on the 4) Mousam River|Mousam River on the North side of the bridge.

Schooling: Graduated 5) Kennebunk 6) High School, in Kennebunk, Maine, USA 1955 went on to further his education at 7) Boston University and he would graduate there in 1959.

At some point between High School and College he would study photography under Minor White, during the 1960’s his 11) photography work would be shown at the 15) Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine, USA - University of 12) Orono in Maine, - and the 14) Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, Maine.

He entered the 8) Navy in 1959. He had an interest in Photography even when he was in High School. The Navy wanted him to become an officer but he refused. Leo also had a problem with motion 9) sickness for most of his life. The Navy wanted his participation as an officer because of his education at (7) Boston University. When he refused they had him start taking photos of the ground from an airplane for informational purposes. It was an act that they did because of his refusal.

He felt this was an intentional act upon their part and this caused him to hate his military service with the Navy. Because of this he hardly ever talked about his service and had no respect for it. Later in live when he sought the help of the USA 10) List of Veterans Affairs medical facilities| Veterans Administration to help cover the cost of medicine he had more respect for his service. He would leave the USA Navy in 1962. After he married his First Wife,

Second Spouse for Jeanette Bishop

Jeanette Bishop would marry a second time to Robert Ramsey Born 31 July, 1924 Dead 26 November, 1992. His nickname was Bob he would serve in the 31) United States Army during 32) World War II, he would be captured by the 33) Nazi’s Army, after a mishap with the Tank he was assigned to serve with. He and the other men would loose their hearing for some time because of a gun fired after the men were told to take off their protective equipment for the ears. He would eventually gain some of the hearing back but would continue to have hearing lose from the event. During his captivity in WWII the Germans would try to feed the Prisoners of War, POW’s bread that had saw dust (34) in it. Later in life he would loose a leg and it was blamed on malnutrition during his POW experience. He was freed by the Allies close to the end of the War.

Divorce

His first wife Jeanette Bishop caught Leo in a Fling with Paula Day, being livid at the event she went to his work and published the news. This would get him fired for an extra marital affair with a co-worker. He would eventually need to move to 14) Charleston, West Virginia to find work.

Occupation

In the early 1960’s Leo Louis Chabot Landed his first 16) job with Photography in 17) Augusta, Maine. He and his family lived in 18) Belfast, Maine while he tried to further his career.

After this he started work for the 19) Rockland Courier Gazette, it was a weekly paper at the time. Then the 20) Bangor Daily News bought the paper and he was immediately employed by a larger paper. He was interested in improving his career during this time. This caused his family to jump from house to house. Eventually he would have the fling with Paula Day. Then his wife at the time called him out on this act by going to his boss at the Bangor Daily News. He would have to move to Charleston, West Virginia gor work.

He was employed there by the 21) Charleston Gazette in Charleston, West Virginia. In the Mid 1980’s he would move back to 22) New England in 1980. He was frustrated with the 23) Mountains and the backward ways of the State at the time. Charleston, West Virginia has a four lane toll road through the State from Charleston to Pipesteam West Virginia now. At the time the 24) West Virginia turnpike was a two lane road.

In the 1980’s he started working for the 25) Lawrence Eagle. Tribune With the teamwork of how work mates they would win two 26) Pulitzer Prize Awards. He would 27) retire from this News Paper and continued to keep his subscription to the Newspaper until he died. He was concerned with the way the membership of all Newspapers was on the 28) decline. When he retired he was one of the Editors with the paper, even in retirement he would read his copy of the paper and continue to see the need for improvement just as if he never left his Editor Position.

Second Marriage

He would meet his 2) Second wife in Charleston, West Virginia. Her name, Constance Gauthier, his divorced wife Jeannette Bishop would drop his two boys off at the News paper in Charleston, West Virginia without any warning. So he an his second wife would raise the two boys. His daughter would also join him and his second wife in South Charleston, WV. He and his second wife would go on to have two girls.

Father ~ Raymond Harold Gauthier Born 15 June, 1920 in Montreal, Wisconsin Dead 4 December, 2009 He was Employed at FMC but the largest secret he held even from some of his family is he was one of the men that Landed on 29) Omaha Beach in France to chance out the Nazi from France.

Mother ~ Frances Maria Myers Born 6 December, Blossburg, Pennsylvania Dead 18 September, 2014 in Summerfield, Florida
