Mei Pang (also known under the alias Meicrosoft) is a first-generation Malaysian-Canadian makeup artist and beauty vlogger. As of January 2022, she has 3.2M subscribers across her YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram pages.

Early Life

Born August 28th, 1996, Mei Pang grew up in the suburbs of Ontario, Canada. She was often the only Asian-Canadian student in her classes, resulting in a deep curiosity about her heritage and ancestral culture [1].

Upon graduating high school, Mei moved to Toronto, Ontario to attend the Ontario College of Arts and Design (OCAD University) for Drawing and Painting. Here, she honed her skills as a classically trained artist for two years before dropping out of the program to pursue a social media career full time [2].

Career

Identifiable by her head-to-toe collection of symmetrical tattoos [3], Mei started off on YouTube where she went viral in 2018 with her cut crease makeup tutorial [4]. By blending her fine arts education and her experience as a part-time makeup artist, Mei created a niche for women to explore their creativity outside of traditional beauty standards. Challenging conventional aesthetics, Pang is serving up daring looks that are sure to inspire all who come across her social media profiles . On her personal brand, Mei has said that her personal ink and wardrobe are very neutral; consisting mostly blacks, whites, and greys, so she wanted to use her face as a canvas to explore colour [5]. "Bright and graphic makeup makes me happy, and my makeup style is getting more bold, painterly, and realistic [5].”

In April of 2021, Mei went viral for a TikTok featuring her 80 fully symmetrical tattoos. Pang’s earliest tattoo, a large chrysanthemum located on the middle of her stomach that was inked when she was the fresh age of 18, was inspired by Rihanna’s giant tattoo of the Egyptian goddess Isis on her sternum [6]. Following this, she was invited to walk in the FW21 Savage X Fenty Show Volume 3 fashion show, which premiered on Amazon Prime. Then, in February of 2022, Mei Pang went viral for her Valentine’s Day lip print look. Pang posted a short video tutorial for the look on both her TikTok and Instagram pages, garnering over 350 million likes and counting between the two platforms [7].
