Early life and education

Toogood was born on June 19, 1992, in Washington, DC. He was raised by his mother and grew up in a family surrounded by women, who worked hard to earn a living. Toogood attended the DC public school. During his school days, Toogood began developing his interests in literature and books. His interests were further backed by his aunts Mary Bullock, the first black English teacher in Tarboro, NC, and Geraldine Jones, who motivated Toogood to deepen his understanding and knowledge through books.

In the year 2011, Toogood enrolled at the University of Maryland to pursue his bachelor’s in marketing, business management, and related support services. Toogood also holds an associate’s degree in culinary arts from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, Atlanta.

Career

Toogood wanted to become a renowned chef and started working in catering and event coordination services in the entertainment industry. He soon developed an interest in public relations and branding. Toogood started his first job working in the retail sector. He began developing an understanding of the customer's needs and wants and honed his skills in public relations and entrepreneurship.[6]

After gaining recognition as an emerging social elite, in 2011, Toogood led the foundation for his company TooGood Inc., a brand and image consulting firm. His company works with clients ranging from business owners to reality television and specializes in brand management and expansion. Over a decade, the company has gained experience working with VH1, Bravo, OWN, and several other networks. His company has emerged as a pioneer in the entertainment, education, and entrepreneurship industries.[7]

In 2018, Toogood launched the company, The Black Authors Matter Tour.[8] The company was established as the first-ever book tour, highlighting Black and Brown authors, and has gradually emerged as one of the largest international book tours owned and managed by an African American. Toogood led the creation of the tour with the objective to uplift the Black literacy culture and provide emerging Black authors with a platform where they can share their work and spread the messages embedded in their books. Nikko has assisted numerous NGOs and authors in their pursuit of literary social impact through panels, book signings, a TEDx conference, and the adoption of schools in South Africa, Botswana, Hatti, and Cambodia.
