Utopus Insights, launched in 2017 is a data-driven software company that develops energy analytics products for the renewable energy industry to optimize their financial interests and increase certainty from intermittent renewable sources. It is headquartered in New York, with development centers in Bengaluru and Budapest and a global sales presence.
Utopus Insights is an independent, wholly-owned subsidiary of Vestas, a leading Denmark based wind turbine manufacturer.
History
Utopus Insights spun out of IBM Research and the team involved with its Smarter Energy Research Institute in 2017. The team specializes in data science, digital analytics, power engineering, energy software development and meteorology/weather forecasting. Utopus Insights has over 100 patents[1][2] to its credit.
Acquisition
Vestas acquired Utopus Insights for $100 million in 2018, to expand its service offering to its customers in the wind turbine data analytics space and to drive digital transformation.
Software Products
Utopus Insights product portfolio offers broad digital analytics coverage: portfolio-wide visualization and performance monitoring and analytics; 5-minute to 14-day ahead power forecasting to optimize asset maintenance activities. The product leverages advanced data science machine learning and artificial intelligence to unlock insights from vast amounts of real-time asset data.
