Barka Umaru Mshelia is a Nigerian architect, businessman, and philanthropist. He is the founder and Group Managing Director of Mshel Group, a conglomerate with interests in real estate, logistics, hospitality, and philanthropy.[1]
He is particularly known for leading Mshel Homes Ltd, which has developed over 40 housing estates in Nigeria, and for initiating the construction of the Mshel International Tower, a planned 37-floor skyscraper in Abuja.[2]
Early life and education
Mshelia was born in Hong, Adamawa State, Nigeria. He has publicly shared that his early years were marked by challenges and limited access to resources.[3] A turning point in his academic development came during secondary school, where encouragement from a teacher motivated him to pursue excellence.
He later studied at various international institutions, including Harvard Business School, the London School of Economics, and the International Business Management Institute in Berlin.[4]

Mshelia is the founder of Mshel Homes Ltd, a real estate company that has played a significant role in shaping Abuja’s housing landscape.[1] The company has completed numerous housing estates across Nigeria and has expanded operations to the UK and US.
He also leads the development of the Mshel International Tower, which, upon completion, is expected to become the tallest building in Africa.[2]
