Brooks Marks (born July 28, 1999) is an American reality television personality, fashion designer and entrepreneur, and model. He is the son of reality star Meredith Marks.[1] He is best known for his appearances on the Bravo reality television programs The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and Next Gen NYC.[2]

Early life and education

Marks was born on July 28, 1999 in Chicago, Illinois, to Meredith Marks and Seth Marks.[3] He has two siblings: brother Reid Marks and sister Chloe Marks.[4] His family moved multiple times during his childhood, living in Chicago, Illinois; Toronto, Canada; and Park City, Utah.[5]

Marks enrolled at New York University in 2017 to study fashion.[6] After two years at NYU, Marks transferred to the University of Southern California in the fall of 2019, subsequently taking a semester off to work on his fashion brand.[6] He returned to NYU in the fall of 2020 and graduated in the spring of 2022.[7]

Career

Television and Media

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City

Marks first appeared on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City with his mother, Meredith Marks, during the show’s first season in 2020.[8] Although most housewives children are only marginally shown, Marks was a central character in the first season, with Vanity Fair dubbing him an "unofficial friend of" in their review of the season.[9] He quickly became a breakout presence and on the series and developed a strong fanbase, particularly among young LGBTQ viewers, due to his dry humor and close relationship with his mother.[10][11][12] During the first season, Marks took a break from college to support his parents as they navigated a separation.[13] Although Meredith revealed that Marks's time off from school was pre-planned and that she encourages all of her children to take a semester off to build their careers, Marks was criticized for quitting school to appear on television and launch his brand.[14]

Marks had a notable conflict with fellow castmate Jen Shah, which began during the first season when he expressed discomfort after Shah threw her legs in the air, claiming he could see her vagina.[15] Shah defended herself by denying that Marks could see her genitals and stating that he'd never seen a vagina before, which drew criticism from other members of the cast.[15] After the first season, Shah liked homophobic tweets about Marks, including one referring to Marks as a slur for gay men,[16] despite the fact that Marks had not publicly labeled his sexuality.[17][18] The tweet caused significant media attention and became a major storyline for the second season.[19][20] Although Shah later apologized for her actions,[21] Marks stepped away from the spotlight for a short time, citing stress and harassment online as a result of the media attention.[22] When Shah was arrested for wire fraud and money laundering in 2021, Marks posted a video of himself lip-syncing to a Nicki Minaj song, seemingly referencing his feud with Shah.[23] Despite Marks' feud with Shah, his mother has since reconciled with her, which has garnered substantial criticism from fans.[24][25]

During filming for the fifth season, castmate Angie Katsanevas’s husband Shawn Trujillo appeared on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast and accused Meredith of using Marks's sexuality to insulate herself from criticism from the LGBTQ community.[26]

Growing Up Reality with Brooks Marks

In September 2022, Marks hosted a video series called "Growing Up Reality with Brooks Marks" for In the Know by Yahoo.[27] The series ran for one season and featured interviews from future costars Gia Giudice and Riley Buruss, his sister Chloe Marks, and Victoria Caputo, daughter of Long Island Medium star Theresa Caputo.[28]

Next Gen NYC

In April 2025, Bravo announced a new series, Next Gen NYC, centered around Brooks Marks and his friends in New York City.[29] Originally titled "Making It in Manhattan," the series was created after producer McKinley Franklin noted Marks' desire to be on television during his parents' audition tape for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.[29] Marks was described by producers as the "glue" of the show, with the entire cast being built around his existing friendships in New York.[29] The series premiere debuted as the most-watched Bravo episode of all time.[30]

Promotion for the show focused on Marks stepping out of his mother’s shadow and showing a different perspective of himself.[31][32] His sister, Chloe Marks, joined the show in an official capacity as a friend of Marks.[33] His storyline prominently featured both of his parents as he attempted to establish a separate identity for himself while balancing his career and social life. Marks's inclusion on the show was commended by GLAAD, who noted the supportive relationship between Marks and his parents.[34] On the show, Marks was portrayed as cautious in confrontational situations, often avoiding conflict with fellow cast members when disagreements arose.[35] In October 2025, the series was renewed for a second season.[36]

Fashion

Marks is the founder and creative force behind his eponymous clothing label, Brooks Marks, which officially launched in 2018.[37] The launch of his tracksuit line was featured prominently on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to mixed reception.[38][39] The debut featured what was billed as his first "collection," but only consisted of a single black tracksuit with his name printed along the seams.[38] The collection was mocked for being overly basic and lacking variety. However, despite the criticism, his next tracksuit drop the following year sold out within four hours.[40] His designs have been worn by several celebrities, including his mother Meredith, Lisa Rinna, Andy Cohen, Jen Shah, and comedian John Oliver.[41][42]

Marks previously served as the creative director for his mother’s eponymous clothing label, Meredith Marks.[43] During the first season of Next Gen NYC, Marks explored the possibility of absorbing the Brooks Marks label into the Meredith Marks brand, but ultimately decided to instead focus on building up the Brooks Marks label.[44] Marks remains a collaborator for the Meredith Marks brand.[45][46]

In addition to his work in fashion design, Marks is also a model. Marks first signed with Ford Models at age 7 and landed a role in a theater production soon after.[5] He stayed with the company until age 12, when he began a hiatus during his teenage years.[47] In 2023, he re-signed with Ford Models.[48] In May 2025, he appeared in a fashion shoot for Teen Vogue wearing items from his own label and from his mother’s designs.[49]

Personal life

Marks has a very close bond with his parents and siblings.[32] He has described his family as being central to his identity and career trajectory, and his relationship with both of his parents was heavily featured on both The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and Next Gen NYC.[1] Marks had an initially strained relationship with his father during the first season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City but their dynamic has improved significantly, with Seth taking a more active role in Marks's life during the filming of Next Gen NYC.[50][51]

In addition to his close familial relationship with his mother, Marks is also one of his mother’s employees, which has caused tension between them.[43] During season 1 of Next Gen NYC, Meredith briefly fired Marks, which Marks shared in a confessional was particularly painful for him because he felt he had failed both as an employee and as a son.[43] Shortly after this incident, Brooks reduced his responsibilities with the Meredith Marks brand so that he could focus on his own label.[44]

Although he was lauded as the first gay son of a Real Housewife,[52] Marks has never publicly labeled his sexuality. His sexuality was a major storyline during the second and fifth seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, which caused Marks severe emotional distress.[53] However, Marks is open about dating men and has the support of his family.[54][55] Marks's family are longtime supporters of GLAAD and frequently attend the organization's events.[56][57]

Marks is dating Kade Thomas, who he met at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.[58] Their relationship was featured on the first season of Next Gen NYC.[59]
