Christopher Espinoza (born August 31, 2000) is an American politician and community leader from Illinois. He has served as a member of the Community High School District 99 Board of Education since 2021 and is a candidate for the DuPage County Board. His political work emphasizes youth representation, education policy, and local governance.[1]
Early life and education
Christopher Espinoza was born on August 31, 2000, in Hinsdale, Illinois. He grew up in Downers Grove and graduated from Downers Grove North High School in 2018. Espinoza went on to study public policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in December of 2024. He is a first-generation college graduate and cites his difficult experience navigating higher education as motivation for his political involvement.[2]
Political career
District 99 Board of Education
At age 20, Espinoza was elected to the Community High School District 99 Board of Education, bringing a student-centered perspective to the board.[3] He campaigned on broadening representation and increasing attention to issues affecting students, including post-graduation planning and youth engagement in decision-making.
He was sworn in as a board member in May of 2021 and is currently serving in his second term.[4] During his tenure, he has served as the district delegate to the Illinois Association of School Boards' Joint Annual Conference and has been a member of both the District 99 Policy Committee and the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County (SASED) Committee since 2023.[5]
Espinoza won reelection in April of 2025 as the only incumbent to seek reelection.[6]
DuPage County Board campaign
In 2025, Espinoza announced his candidacy for the DuPage County Board to represent District 2.[7] The primary election will be held on March 17th, 2026. He faces one opponent in the Democratic primary election.[8]
His campaign focuses on issues such as affordable housing, improved access to mental health care, public transportation enhancements, economic development that benefits workers and small businesses, transparency, and equitable governance.[9]

Espinoza has articulated priorities that include investment in mental health care, transit accessibility, housing affordability, and community safety. Espinoza is active in Democratic Party politics at the local level. He serves as President of the DuPage County Young Democrats and as third vice president of the Young Democrats of Illinois, roles in which he focuses on youth voter engagement and civic participation.[11]
Espinoza has publicly spoken about experiencing homelessness in DuPage County earlier in his life. He has described this period as formative in shaping his views on housing stability, access to social services, and the role of local government in supporting vulnerable residents.
