John Kinyua Murithi is a Kenyan general and vascular surgeon and medical educator. He practices in Mombasa and is reported to be the first dedicated vascular surgeon at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH).[1]

Early life and education

Dr Kinyua earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Moi University in 2011, and completed fellowship training in general surgery through the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (FCS ECSA) in 2020.[2]

Career

Dr Kinyua serves as a consultant surgeon at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mombasa, with clinical work spanning general, laparoscopic and vascular surgery.[2] He also holds admitting privileges at Pandya Memorial Hospital in Mombasa.[3]

In 2023 he undertook focused vascular surgery training in Paris supported by EASurgical, returning to CGTRH to establish dedicated vascular services and receive ongoing mentorship from visiting specialists.[1]

Recognition

According to EASurgical, Dr Kinyua’s role as CGTRH’s first dedicated vascular surgeon expanded access to limb- and life-saving vascular care in Kenya’s Coast region, reducing referrals outside the county.[1]
