Don Holland is a retired Australian racing car driver, who was a regular competitor in the Bathurst 500/1000 between 1963 and 1981, making 17 entries in total.[1]
His first entry to the race was a Morris Mini 850 that he shared with Lindsay Little in Class A. After a race long battle with the Volkswagen Beetle of Bill Ford and Barry Ferguson, the car rolled at the final turn of the last lap at Murray's Corner, with Lindsay at the wheel. The car was righted back on to its wheels to claim 2nd in class.[2]
Don would go on to claim a total of 5 class victories in the race in 1966 and 1967 (Class B - Morris Mini Cooper), 1968 (Class C - Morris Mini Cooper S, 1970 (Class C - Holden LC Torana GTR XU-1) and 1975 (Class C 2001cc to 3000cc - Mazda RX-3)[3]
His best outright result in the race came in 1970, driving solo in his Max Wright Motors sponsored LC Torana GTR XU-1 to 3rd place after a late race duel with the Chrysler VG Valiant Pacer 2 Barrel of Doug Chivas and Graham Ryan. He finished a lap behind the winner Allan Moffat and second placed Bruce McPhee both driving Ford XW Falcon GTHO Phase II for the Ford Works team.[4][5]
His last start in the race was in 1981 as co driver to Terry Shiel in a Mazda RX7 that retired on lap 13.
