Emrex is a digital system for the cross-border transfer of academic credits between universities. It continued to be operated by several European countries after EU funding ended and is used particularly in the Nordic higher education area. Emrex enables students to transfer academic records electronically from one university to another without having to submit physical documents.
Background
Emrex was created in the mid-2010s against the backdrop of increasing European higher education mobility. The Finnish National Agency for Education describes the electronically transferable achievement data as a contribution to simplifying mobility between higher education institutions in the Nordic and Baltic countries.[1]
How it works
The system is based on the idea that students initiate the exchange of their data themselves. Universities that support Emrex use a standardized data format and a secure technical interface for this purpose.
