Eyjólfur Guðmundsson is an Icelandic economist and academic administrator who served as rector of the University of Akureyri from 2014 to 2024.[1]

Education and Career

Guðmundsson graduated from Verzló in 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Iceland in 1992 and completed a Ph.D. in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at the University of Rhode Island in 2002.[2][3]

He joined the University of Akureyri as an assistant professor in January 2000. He became an associate professor in September 2004 and served as dean of the Faculty of Business from January 2005 to June 2007. He was appointed rector of the university in July 2014, serving until July 2024.[1]

In 2014, Guðmundsson was also appointed Chairman of the Board at the University of Greenland.[4]

From 2007 to 2014, Guðmundsson worked for CCP Games, the developer of the online game EVE Online. His roles included lead economist (2007–2014), director of research and statistics (2008–2014), and head of analytics (2014).[5]
