Fintua is a fintech company headquartered in Kilkenny, Ireland, that specialises in indirect tax compliance and recovery solutions. Formerly known as Taxback International, the company rebranded in 2025 to reflect its evolution into a SaaS-based provider of VAT compliance, e-invoicing, and cross-border payment technologies. Fintua operates in more than 180 countries and serves multinational businesses with a suite of automated tax compliance tools.[1]
History
Fintua was originally founded in 1996 as Taxback International by Irish entrepreneur Terry Clune. The company began by helping students reclaim foreign VAT and expanded in the early 2000s into corporate VAT recovery services. It became part of the Taxback Group, which was later restructured and rebranded as CluneTech, a fintech holding company that includes other businesses such as TransferMate, Immedis, and Sprintax.[2]
From 2020 onwards, Taxback International shifted focus towards enterprise SaaS platforms for indirect tax compliance. This transformation culminated in its rebranding to Fintua in March 2025, a name derived from "Fin" (finance) and “-tua” from the Irish word tuath (community). The rebranding was formally launched in June–July 2025 across its global offices, including the Kilkenny headquarters.[3]
Products and Services
Fintua offers several platform-based solutions for indirect tax management:

- eInvoice – A compliance tool for global e-invoicing mandates, compatible with formats such as Peppol, XML, JSON, and country-specific systems like Italy’s SDI and Poland’s KSeF.
- Fintua Payments – A cross-border B2B payments platform that includes built-in VAT validation, invoice tracking, and fraud prevention features.
