Gigadat Solutions Inc. is a Canadian payment-service provider that processes online banking transfers—principally through—for e-commerce merchants, online gaming operators and other businesses that accept or remit funds in Canadian dollars.[2]

History

Established in 2013 and headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gigadat Solutions Inc. was founded by payments industry veteran Guy Fietz. The company has since expanded its presence in the Canadian online payments sector.[2][1] In June 2024, the company announced a strategic partnership with UK-based electronic money institution PayDo to extend real-time bank transfer capabilities to PayDo’s commercial clients across Canada.[3]

Operations and services

Gigadat provides a payment platform that enables merchants to accept direct payments from Canadian customers’ bank accounts, primarily via Interac e-Transfer and Interac Online.[2] Its two main services are:

Pay-Ins – consumer-initiated deposits transferred directly from a bank account to a merchant.

Pay-Outs – automated withdrawals (such as winnings or refunds) to customers’ bank accounts using Interac e-Transfer or real-time payment rails.[3]

The company’s clientele mainly includes provincially licensed online gaming operators and digital goods retailers.[2]

Market position

Gigadat positions itself as an infrastructure provider, facilitating access for merchants to the entire Canadian consumer base regardless of their banking institution.[1] This model enables merchants to reach Canadian customers who prefer bank-based payment methods over credit cards.

Regulation

Under Canada’s Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA), payment service providers must register with the Bank of Canada. Gigadat confirmed in November 2024 that it had submitted its registration, a step its CEO described as raising the bar for security and consumer trust.[2]
