Biography

From 1974 to 1980, Ioannidis studied architecture at the Università Iuav di Venezia and fine arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia.[2][3]
He continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze from 1980 to 1985, specialising in painting and scenography, and received a diploma in painting from the academy.[3]

While studying in Florence, he also trained in the studio of the painter Pietro Annigoni between 1982 and 1984.[3]
Teaching activity
A 2014 Q&A published on the USEUM blog refers to Ioannidis's teaching activity over approximately 25 years.[7]
In the exhibition catalogue Anthology (2010), Alekos Tziolas refers to his emphasis on drawing from the human figure and on combining theoretical discussion with studio practice.[8]
Artistic work
In Anthology (2010), philologist Alekos Tziolas notes that Ioannidis began drawing and painting at a young age, and refers to his engagement with European painting traditions that combine figurative and symbolic elements.[8]
An article in the Greek magazine Trito Mati reports that Ioannidis exhibited his work from an early age.[9]
An article in the Greek journal Koinoniki Epitheorisi describes Ioannidis’ painting technique as based on successive transparent layers (glacis), a method associated with classical European painting practices.[10]
Art historian Maria Melenti discusses recurring mythological, religious, and historical themes in his work, as well as a sustained focus on the human figure.[1]
Themes and style
Catalogue essays by Chrysanthos Christou, Katia Kilessopoulou and Giulio Guardi discuss themes and painting methods in Ioannidis’ work across different periods.[11][12][1]
Art historian Chrysanthos Christou refers to the combination of figurative and abstract elements in his painting and notes an emphasis on colour and the human figure.[11]
Giulio Guardi comments on the coexistence of figurative and abstract elements, as well as on the central role of the human figure in compositions that combine historical and symbolic references.[12]
