Kari Jones Dulin is an American trial attorney based in Colorado who practices in personal injury, wrongful death, insurance bad faith, and catastrophic injury law. She is a founding partner of Dulin McQuinn Young LLP and has represented clients in civil litgation on both state and federal courts. Dulin has also served in leadership roles with professional legal organizations, including the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and was heavily involved in passing Bill 24-1472.

Early life and education

Kari Jones Dulin grew up in Emmetsburg, a small farm community in northwest Iowa, where her father worked as a banker and her mother was a teacher.[1]

Dulin earned her B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1999, followed by a J.D. from Drake University in 2003. She later completed an LL.M. in Health Law at Saint Louis University in 2005.

Legal career

Dulin is a founding partner at Dulin McQuinn Young LLP in Denver, Colorado.[2]

Dulin is an instructor at the Keenan Trial Institute, teaching courses on damages, and is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College.[3]

Leadership and advocacy

Dulin served as President of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) from 2023–2024.[4][5] In her role with CTLA, she was quoted regarding legislation on damage caps and legal reform.[6]

In 2024, Dulin advocated for changes to Colorado's tort damage limits. She testified in support of House Bill 24-1472,[7] which aimed to raise damage caps for civil actions, including wrongful death and medical malpractice cases. The bill was a bipartisan measure that sought to balance the interests of plaintiffs and the insurance industry.[8]

Dulin has contributed opinion-style commentary to The Colorado Sun[9] and has appeared in podcasts and panel discussions on trial law topics and women in the trial bar.

Notable Cases

Wrongful Death at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

In 2025, Dulin represented a plaintiff in a wrongful death case at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Garfield County, Colorado. The jury awarded a total of $205 million, including $82 million in compensatory damages and $123 million in punitive damages, following the death of a six-year-old girl on an amusement park ride.[10]

John Perry v. Home Depot

In 2023, Dulin's firm secured a $771,000 jury verdict in a premises liability case against Home Depot in Douglas County, Colorado. The verdict was the second-largest premises liability jury award in the county's history. The total judgment, including interest, amounted to $930,830.50
