Labrador Labratories is an Israeli indiefolk band, operating from Tel Aviv since 2009. Labrador Labratories was founded by Tom Gottlieb and Noam Vardy in 2009. The group combines folk, lo-fi and psychedelic rock elements and has released six albums. Other members in the band are Itai Kauman, Stav Ben-Shachar and Mati Gilad.
History
Labrador Labratories started as a personal music project by Israeli musician Tom Gottlieb, who created a fictional persona called Labra as part of a creative initiative..[1] The idea evolved into a full band after Noam Vardy joined Gottlieb, and the two began writing new songs, performing and recording material together.[2]
Since forming the band in 2009, Labrador Labratories has released six albums: Open Cage (2010), Stairway Escapist (2011), Labra Cadabra (2012), Live in Basel (2013), Lonely Tribes (2014), and Love, Death & Kisses. Their last release has been distributed by The Third Ear, an independent Israeli music label.[3]
The band’s sound has been described as combining indie-folk songwriting with psychedelic rock and lo-fi pop influences. Labrador Labratories has performed across Israel and Europe, including appearances at independent festivals such as Ya'arot Menashe Festival.[4]
In later years, Gottlieb and Vardy have continued collaborating with a large range of musicians and producers while maintaining the project’s conceptual foundations. In 2025, they announced new recordings and the continuation of the Labrador Labratories project.[5]
