Mamoun Abu Nowar (born 6 January 1950) is a retired Royal Jordanian Air Force major general and military and strategic analyst. He served in the Royal Jordanian Air Force for more than three decades before retiring in 2000. Following his military career, he became active in military and strategic analysis and has been interviewed and cited by regional and international media on defence, security, and regional affairs.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Abu Nowar was born in Amman on 6 January 1950. He joined the Royal Jordanian Air Force in 1968 and trained at the Pakistan Air Force Academy, graduating in 1971. During his military career, he also completed specialised military training in Jordan and abroad. He later earned a master’s degree in political science from Auburn University at Montgomery in the United States, as well as a master’s degree in military science.[4][5]
Military career
Abu Nowar served in the Royal Jordanian Air Force for more than thirty years and held a number of operational and command positions. His appointments included command of No. 9 Squadron and King Faisal Air Base. He also served as military secretary to Prince Hassan bin Talal. He retired from military service in 2000 with the rank of major general.[6][5][4]

Following his retirement, Abu Nowar became active as a military and strategic analyst. He has been interviewed and cited by Arab and international media organisations on military affairs, defence, security, and regional developments.[2][3][7][8]

His analysis has addressed military operations, regional security, armed conflicts, and developments affecting Jordan and the wider Middle East.
