Nawan Kesar Singh Wala is a village in the Rampura Phul tehsil of Bathinda district, Punjab. It is an independent administrative unit governed by its own Gram Panchayat in the Bhagta Bhai Ka development block.

History

Jagraj Singh Brar founded the village on 13 April 1956, on Baisakhi. Its first residents came from the older village of Kesar Singh Wala, then part of Barnala district and Phul tehsil in PEPSU. Floods in October 1955 had destroyed that village. Jagraj Singh arranged new land for the displaced families during a period of land consolidation in the area. The families first lived in temporary huts before building permanent homes.

Jagraj Singh installed a tubewell for irrigation in 1948. More tubewells were installed in 1960–61. In 1972, Chief Minister Gyani Zail Singh approved a primary school for the village. An agricultural cooperative society building, separate from Bhagta Bhai Ka's, was built in 1974–75. Around the same time, this village's panchayat and the panchayat of neighbouring Burj Ladha Singh Wala jointly built a government middle school on the road between the two villages. Between 1976 and 1978, the Soil Conservation Department paved an irrigation channel on the new village's side. The government primary school building was constructed in 1988–89. A water works project, originally sanctioned for Aklia and the old Kesar Singh Wala, was later completed with a water tank built in Kesar Singh Wala; this brought piped drinking water to the village. A separate Gram Panchayat for the village was approved by minister Sikander Singh Maluka in 1997, and its streets were paved over the following two to three years. The village was connected to the urban electricity feeder by 2000. A gurdwara building was completed in 1998–99.

The Punjabi Tribune reported the village's population as 235, with 190 registered voters, in 2015.

Administration

The village is recorded as an independent Gram Panchayat (Serial No. 24, Hadbast No. 185) under the Bhagta Bhai Ka block in Bathinda district. It is part of the Rampura Phul Assembly constituency.
