History
The history of Neuver Maritime traces back over 70 years and involves several pioneering maritime brands from Norway:
- Tenfjord Mekaniske Verksted (established in 1953) became recognized for its innovative steering gear systems. - Frydenbø was another independent manufacturer of steering gears, focusing on compact and reliable designs. - Ulstein Group later acquired both Tenfjord and Frydenbø, consolidating steering gear expertise under the Ulstein brand. - Ulstein also expanded its rudder technology portfolio by acquiring Hareid Rudders and the Hinse patent, the latter known for the high-lift Hinse rudder aimed at improving maneuverability and efficiency. - In the late 1990s, Rolls-Royce plc acquired Ulstein’s maritime operations, including the Tenfjord, Frydenbø, Hareid, and Hinse technologies. - Following the acquisition of Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine by Kongsberg Maritime in 2019, these maneuvering systems became part of Kongsberg’s portfolio.[2]
