Nils Courbaron (born January 25, 1990 in Île-de-France, France) is a French metal guitarist, known for his talents in various styles such as power metal, symphonic metal, technical death metal. He is also recognized for his skills as a composer, his energetic performances, as well as for his past commitment as a nurse, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic in France.

Biography

Beginnings and musical career

Nils Courbaron started playing guitar at the age of 13. Heavily influenced by bands such as Iron Maiden , Helloween and Children of Bodom , he founded his solo (instrumental) project, Nils Courbaron's Project, from 2008, with several singles and EPs including Madness Leads to Death (tracks recorded between 2008 and 2010, released in 2012), Rebirth (2013), 3 Days in Hell (2019) and Purple Horizon (2022).

Band career

Nils began his professional career in a band with TANK (Think of A New Kind) in 2012[1]. He participated in 2 albums, Symbiosis (2015)[2], accompanied by a French and European tour as the opening act for Soilwork and Ideals Will Remain (2020) followed by a European tour as the opening act for Sinsaenum. The band also performed on the festivals stages of Hellfest, Motocultor, and the Durbuy Rock Festival, amongst others.

In 2017, Nils was invited by Morten Veland as a session lead guitarist for a tour with Sirenia, which resulted in his permanent integration as the band's lead guitarist[3]. He contributed to the albums Arcane Astral Aeons (2018), Riddles, Ruins and Revelations (2021) and 1977 (2023).

He also joined, when it was founded in 2020, Dropdead Chaos band as lead and solo guitarist, alongside musicians from the French-speaking metal scene.

Bloordorn

In 2020, he founded Bloodorn band (melodic power metal mixed with extreme elements), with Mike Livas (vocals) and Francesco Saverio Ferraro (bass). Their first album, Let the Fury Rise is released on May 24, 2024 via Reaper Entertainment.[4][5]

The band's thematic universe is inspired by Norse mythology, oppression and dark fantasy, with the name "Bloodorn" playing on the idea of ​​"Blôdörn", a Viking torture[6]. The band made their live debut with a highly acclaimed concert at Epic Fest in Denmark, then performed in Switzerland at the Rock The Lakes cruise, Rockcastle in the Czech Republic and Furios Fest in France.

Other collaborations

In 2023, Nils signed a solo for Mortemia, Morten Veland's solo project on the title "The Endless Shore".

In 2024, Nils recorded a solo on the Nanowar of Steel cover of Georges Brassens' "Brave Margot" .

He also participated in the Savage Lands project alongside Dirk Verbeuren and Sylvain Demercastel on the title “Army Of The Trees”.

In 2025, Nils signed a solo for the Norwegian group Confidential on the title "Time To Change The World", intended to raise funds to help children in Uganda.

Equipment, influences and style

Nils Courbaron is an official ESP demonstrator in France, and uses in particular: an ESP E-II Horizon NT-7 with Evertune bridge, an ESP Custom Shop Horizon III, an ESP E-II Horizon FR7 BTB, an ESP E-II Horizon FR7 Black and an ESP E-II Horizon FR.

He has a strong taste for power metal, heavy metal, technical death metal, melodic death, as well as flamenco, with influences such as Iron Maiden, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Symphony X, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Children of Bodom, The Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy and Rodrigo & Gabriela. Among his favorite guitarists: Alexi Laiho, Adrian Smith, Jeff Loomis, Kiko Loureiro, Michael Romeo and Rodrigo & Gabriela.[7]
