Omar Barnett [1] (born October 1, 1980) is a Jamaican-American entrepreneur and medical research executive. He is the founder and CEO of Prospective Research Innovations Inc. (PRI)[2], a clinical research company based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Barnett is also the founder of the Omar Barnett Foundation[3], a nonprofit organization supporting women and children affected by abuse.He also co-founded PRI Wellness and Beauty[4], a wellness-focused clinic
Early Life and Education
Barnett was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He first moved to the United States with his father in 1989 but returned to Jamaica in 1990 due to homesickness. He grew up in Seaview Gardens, St. Andrew, and attended Calabar High School. During his youth, Barnett engaged in entrepreneurial ventures such as selling newspapers and reselling event tickets. In 2000, he returned to the United States to pursue studies in biology and began working in medical research.
Career
Prospective Research Innovations Inc
Barnett has more than 20 years of experience in the field of medical research. He began in entry-level roles and progressed to conducting clinical studies. In 2014, he founded Prospective Research Innovations (PRI)[5] to address the lack of diversity in clinical research ownership. The company initially struggled to secure projects, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, it rapidly expanded from one to thirteen active studies.
PRI has conducted research on conditions such as depression, schizophrenia, asthma, and ulcerative colitis. The company has partnered with leading pharmaceutical firms including Parexel, Sanofi, Johnson & Johnson, and GlaxoSmithKline. Barnett plans to expand PRI to ten facilities in California and ten more in the Caribbean, including a proposed medical research and tourism facility in Negril, Jamaica.
PRI Wellness and Beauty
InIn addition to his work in medical research, Barnett co-founded PRI Wellness and Beauty[4], a wellness clinic offering treatments such as intravenous (IV) therapy, lymphatic drainage massage, and aesthetic procedures. The clinic caters to clients seeking supportive care during or after medical treatments, as well as individuals seeking preventative or cosmetic health services.
Philanthropy
In 2024, Barnett launched The Omar Barnett Foundation[3], a nonprofit based in Rancho Cucamonga. The foundation offers transitional housing, therapy, financial assistance, and support services to women and girls who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. The organization was inspired by his wife, Elvira Guzman, a strong advocate for women's empowerment.
