Peter Burton is an American contemporary worship musician, worship leader, and pastor from California.[1] Burton was a founding member of Bayside Church's Thrive Worship until 2025, when he signed with Integrity Music and began releasing material as a solo musician. His debut single, "Where Would I Be", was commercially successful across Christian radio.[2]

Career

Early career (2019–2025)

Before beginning his career as a solo musician, Burton worked with Lincoln Brewster, writing music. He was also a founding member of Thrive Worship, the worship band of Bayside Church.[3][1] Burton collaborated significantly on the collective's debut studio album, A Thousand More (2019). Earning 20,000 first-week sales according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuting at number 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and number 24 on the overall Billboard 200 chart, the album was a commercially successful release.[4][5] It was credited to be the most successful debut album since Cory Asbury's Reckless Love (2018).[6]

Signing with Integrity and Where Would I Be (2025–present)

Following his work with the group, Burton left Thrive Worship to pursue his solo career. In January 2025, it was announced that Burton had been signed with the record label Integrity Music,[7] jointly managed by Matthew West's Story House Collective.[3][8] After signing with the label, Burton released his debut single, "Where Would I Be", in April of 2025.[9] The song was inspired by his struggle with mental health issues when he was younger—he recorded it with the intention to "help others fighting a similar battle."[10] The single earned significant airplay on Christian radio. It peaked at numbers 2 and 1 on the Billboard Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Adult Contemporary charts, respectively; on the overall Hot Christian Songs chart, it peaked at number 11.[11][12][13] His second single, "Jesus Over Everything", was released in June of that year.[14]

In November 2025, Burton toured as a featured act on West's Don't Stop Praying Tour. From its first date on November 6 until its final date on November 23, 2025, the tour visited thirteen venues in the United States.[15] In December 2025, Burton was named as "Artist to Watch" at the Pandora Music Awards.[16] He released his debut extended play, titled Where Would I Be, on January 30, 2026. The extended play featured Burton's debut single, as well as three alternate recordings of the song.[17] In spring 2026, he will appear as a featured act on Anne Wilson's The Stars Tour. The tour will visit twenty-one locations in both the United States and Canada, beginning on March 12 and completing on May 11, 2026.[16]

In April 2026, the song "Where Would I Be" rose to top the Billboard and Mediabase Christian Adult Contemporary charts, becoming Burton's first chart-topping song.[18]

Personal life

Burton is the father of two daughters.[10] He suffered with a mental illness in his younger years.[1] His struggle has been a cause for inspiration in his music.[10]
