Railbookers Group (formerly Yankee Leisure Group) is a U.S.-based travel company that arranges independent rail vacations. The company operates the Railbookers and Amtrak Vacations brands. Amtrak Vacations is associated with Amtrak, the United States’ national rail operator.[1] It provides itineraries that include services from national and luxury train operators in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania..[2][3]
History
The company traces its origins to 1972. In March 2022, it rebranded from Yankee Leisure Group to Railbookers Group.[4][5]
In 2020, following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Railbookers transitioned to a fully remote workforce, closing its offices in Massachusetts, California, London, and Sydney.[6]
Operations
Railbookers Group arranges rail itineraries that combine train travel, hotels, sightseeing, and transfers. It serves customers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.[7]
In 2023, the company announced an 80-day round-the-world rail journey spanning four continents and 13 countries, which was reported in Condé Nast Traveler and TravelPulse.[8][9] A shorter 59-day version was announced in 2024, which was reported in Travel + Leisure.[10]
Other offerings have included a rail trip between Florence and Rome with a culinary theme,[11] as well as European rail packages and rail-cruise combination vacations.[12]
Media coverage and recognition
In 2024, the company was named "Best Rail Vacation Provider" at the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards.[13] The following year, Fortune discussed the rise of luxury rail travel and mentioned Railbookers’ 59-day journey as an example.[14]
Philanthropy
In June 2023, Railbookers Group announced a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, under which donations help fund wishes for children with critical illnesses.[15][16]
In 2024, Railbookers partnered with Amtrak and Make-A-Wish to grant its first wish trip, a journey through the Rocky Mountains for a child with a critical illness.[17]
Leadership and industry involvement
Frank Marini, president and CEO of Railbookers Group, serves on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, which advises the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.[18]
