Rangan Kanti Jana is an Indian historian and archaeologist currently serving as curator of the Museum and Art Gallery at The University of Burdwan. He is also an executive committee member at the Centre for Archaeological Studies & Training, member of the editorial board, Puravritta, Directorate of Archaeology and Museums.[1] Dept. I and C, Govt. of West Bengal. Eastern India, member of executive committee 2018-2021 - Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad[2] as well as member of The Asiatic Society.[3][4]

Early life and education

Dr. Jana was born in Ballygunge in South Kolkata and graduated from Presidency University, Kolkata. He later pursued his Masters and Ph.D from University of Calcutta.

Major works in the museum

Under the supervision of Dr.Jana, the experts from Directorati of Archaeology and Museums Govt. of West Bengal completed the total digital accession of the Museum's objects.

He also published the first descriptive catalogue of sculptures of the museum jointly with B. Chatterjee.[5]

Under the able supervision of Dr.Jana, the biggest oil painting Coronation of Bijay Chand Mahtab had been fully restored by the experts of the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata between 1998 and 2006.
