Razvan Ionut Ghinea is a Romanian researcher and university professor specialized in biomaterials optics, colorimetry, and esthetic dentistry. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Optics at the University of Granada (Spain) and serves as Vice-Dean for Internationalization at the Faculty of Sciences of the same university.
Education
Ghinea obtained a Bachelor's degree in Medical Physics from the University of Craiova (Romania). He later earned a Master's degree in Advanced Methods and Techniques in Physics from the University of Granada and a Master's degree in Quantum Field Theory from the University of Craiova. In 2013, he received his International PhD in Physical Sciences from the University of Granada.
Academic career
After completing his doctorate, he joined the University of Granada as a faculty member and researcher, where he currently works as an Associate Professor of Optics. His research focuses on the development of optical techniques for the evaluation of biomaterials, with applications in esthetic dentistry, dental color, clinical optics, and tissue engineering.
He has published over 50 papers in scientific journals, contributed to several books, and presented at numerous conferences, earning over 6,500 citations according to international databases such as Scopus,[1] Google Scholar,[2] and Research Gate.[3]
He also serves as Secretary of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD),[4] Section Editor for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry,[5] and as a consultant for UPCERA[6] and Ivoclar.[7] He is also an Adjunct Scientist of Houston Center for Biomaterials and Biomimetics at University of Texas since 2012 and Honorary Research Associate at the University of Craiova since 2019.
Awards and recognition
In 2013 he received the SCAD VITA Award for Excellence in Research Related to Color and Appearance in Esthetic Dentistry, awarded by the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry.
Since 2023, Razvan Ghinea is considered the world's top-rated expert in Prosthesis Coloring.[8]
Teaching
Ghinea teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to Optics and Optometry, including contact lens science, clinical visual optics, and color analysis.
