RebusFarm GmbH is a professional cloud render farm provider offering services to 3D artists worldwide, with headquarters in Germany, specializing in high-performance CPU and GPU rendering for 3D images, animation, and visual effects, and known for its reliable infrastructure and integration-friendly workflow solutions. The company operates internationally and serves individual artists, studios, and educational institutions, supporting a wide range of professional 3D software and render engines used in film, animation, architecture, and product visualization. RebusFarm was founded in 2006 in Cologne, Germany, and is headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany. It has since grown into an internationally used platform within the professional 3D and visual effects community.[1][2][3][4]

History

RebusFarm was founded in 2006 in Cologne by Ralph Huchtemann. In 2009, the company launched the Farminizer plugin, which enabled users to submit rendering jobs directly from supported 3D software environments to the cloud render farm.[5][6][7]

In February 2015, RebusFarm released RebusFarm 2.0, introducing the ControlCenter and RebusDrop tools with secure file transfer, automated updates, and improved data export speeds. In September 2019, the company introduced RebusFarm 3.0, featuring a redesigned ControlCenter interface, batch rendering, pre-upload functionality, real-time previews, and a job resubmission system.[8][9][10]

In 2023, RebusFarm rolled out a major platform update branded as “The New RebusFarm – Faster, Stronger, Better”, which included a modernized user interface, updated transfer protocols, high-core-count CPU machines, expanded NVIDIA GPU infrastructure, a renewed ControlCenter, and the Team Management tool.[11]

Services and activities

Rendering is the process of converting 3D models into images or animation frames used in film, animation, architecture, and product visualization. RebusFarm’s core activity is providing scalable, cloud-based CPU and GPU rendering services for professional 3D content production, designed to reduce production time and increase efficiency for creative teams. The platform is used for still image rendering, animation rendering, and visual effects (VFX) projects. The service is designed to integrate into existing studio pipelines as well as individual freelancers’ workflows.[12][13][14][15]

Platform and services

RebusFarm provides a cloud-based rendering platform designed for professional 3D production workflows. The service supports a broad range of widely used 3D applications, including Autodesk 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender, Modo, LightWave, SketchUp, and Rhino, as well as the legacy software Softimage, which remains supported for compatibility with older projects and pipelines.[16][17][18][19][20][21]

The platform supports multiple commercial and open-source render engines commonly used in production environments, such as V-Ray, Corona, Redshift, Arnold, Octane, and Maxwell. Legacy projects using Mental Ray are also supported. To streamline workflow integration and project management, RebusFarm has developed several proprietary tools. These include Farminizer, a plugin introduced in 2009 for direct job submission from 3D software; ControlCenter, a desktop application for monitoring and managing rendering jobs; RebusDrop, a tool for secure file transfer and synchronization; and TeamManager, a system for managing collaboration and access rights within teams.[22][23][24]

The company’s customer base includes a broad international range of creative professionals and organizations, such as freelance 3D artists, animation and visual effects studios, architectural visualization companies, product and industrial designers, as well as educational institutions and training centers. Its services are applied across sectors, including film and television production, animation, visual effects, architectural visualization, real estate marketing, motion graphics, and automotive visualization. RebusFarm operates internationally, provides multilingual customer support, and maintains partnerships with software vendors and industry communities through its Cloud Rendering Partners program.[25][26][27]

Awards and recognition

RebusFarm has not publicly announced major formal industry awards. However, it has received various forms of industry recognition, including:

  • user ratings averaging around 4.6 out of 5 on third‑party review platforms,[28][29][30]
  • regular inclusion in independent “Top render farm” comparison articles,
  • sponsorship of prizes for international 3D industry competitions such as the CGTrader Awards and the Vivid Awards.[31][32][33]

From 2016 to 2023, the company also organized annual 3D Artist of the Month and 3D Artist of the Year contests.[34][35][36][37][38][39]

Sustainability

RebusFarm states that it sources electricity from Naturenergie AG, a German energy provider focused on hydropower generation. The company also reports the use of energy‑efficient hardware and internal resource‑management software aimed at reducing overall power consumption within its rendering infrastructure.[40][41]
