Riki (Rebekah Ladizinsky) is a visual artist and musician active in the synth-pop scenes of Los Angeles, California. Formerly a member of Crimson Scarlet, under the name Niff Nawor, she launched her solo project as Riki in 2017.[1]
Riki's music is reminiscent of styles from the 1980s including synth-pop. She has drawn comparisons to artists of that era, such as Kate Bush, and has been involved with several current electronic acts.
History
Riki grew up near Portland, Oregon playing cello and bass in orchestras throughout school at Waluga Junior High in Lake Oswego, Oregon.[2] She played in several small bands before being asked to play bass and sing backup vocals for Crimson Scarlet, a deathrock/punk band from Santa Barbara.[3] According to her, after accepting the offer to play bass for the band, she was asked and accepted to play synth instead.[4]
She played in Crimson Scarlet around the San Francisco Bay Area sometime between 2011 and 2014 and eventually left the band before its dissolution in 2014.
In 2017, she formed her solo project and self published an EP titled Hot City.[5] She then showed demos to Dais Records and published her first self titled album with them in 2020. [6]
Riki's stage performance style has been described as theatrical, sensual, and expressive with 80's influences on her musical style.[7] She has described several of her musical influences as Billy Idol, David Bowie, Gary Numan, Rammstein, Dead Kennedys, Madness, Amebix, Fields of the Nephilim, and Bauhaus. [8]
Some of her songs are sung in German.
