Roberts Linavskis (born 22 April 1985) is a Latvian multi-sport athlete and executive. He is best known as a wakeboarder, having won multiple Latvian national titles and the 2024 IWWF World Championship in Over-30 Masters Men wakeboarding, and as a professional ice hockey player and founder and Director of Sporting Operations for HC Porto, a club competing in Portugal and the Iberian Ice Hockey League.

Early life

Linavskis was born in Riga, Latvia, on 22 April 1985. He holds dual Latvian and Portuguese nationality. His early athletic background included ice hockey and water skiing in Latvia before later expanding more into water sports, particularly wakeboarding and wakesurfing.

Alongside his competitive career, Linavskis has been heavily involved in coaching and the development of the sport. In 2010, he became involved in establishing Wake Up Academy in Latvia, focusing on boat wakeboarding and wakesurf instruction and related event activity. In 2015, he founded Sidewake in Portugal, continuing his work as a coach and organizer.

He is also an International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation official, holding a J5 Stars Judge (J5*) qualification in Wakeboard Boat. He served on the jury panel at the IWWF E&A Wakeboard Boat Championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Linavskis is a nine-time Latvian national wakeboard champion (Open Men). He also won the Latvian w

Wakesurf Championship in 2021 and 2022, and was the runner-up in 2024 and 2025

In Portugal, he has competed successfully as a guest athlete, winning the Open Men categories at the 2024 Campeonato Nacional de Wake, in both wakeboard and wakesurf disciplines.

International achievements

At European level, Linavskis is a multi-medalist:

  • 2024 – Silver medal (Wakeboard)

At the world level, he won the gold medal at the 2024 IWWF World Wakeboard Championships in Hangzhou, China, in the Over-30 Masters Men category, scoring 57.11 points in the final.

World Games

Linavskis represented Latvia at the World Games in wakeboard freestyle three times:

  • 2017 (Wrocław, Poland) – competed in Open Men.
  • 2022 (Birmingham, United States) – finished 14th overall.
  • 2025 (Chengdu, China) – reached the semifinals ( finished 9th overall ), having qualified by winning the 2024 World Championship in the Masters division.

Playing career

Linavskis plays as a left wing for HC Porto, wearing jersey #17. He debuted with the club in the 2023–24 season, recording an assist in his first game. In the 2024–25 season, he registered 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 games.

Executive role

In addition to playing, Linavskis serves as the Director of Sporting Operations for HC Porto. He has been involved in the club’s efforts to promote ice hockey in Portugal, including participation in the Iberian Ice Hockey League, cross-border competitions with Spain, and building sponsorships and partnerships for the team.

Personal life

Linavskis was born in Riga, Latvia, on 22 April 1985. His partner, Anna Linavska, was born on 28 September 1993 in Yakutsk, Russia.

Outside of sports, Linavskis operates a wakeboard school SIDEWAKE in Portugal, using a Correct Craft Super Air Nautique G23, and is engaged in developing water sports and ice hockey in the Iberian region.
