Rupam Roy is an Indian bank officers' trade union leader. He has been reported as the general secretary of the All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC) and the All India State Bank Officers' Federation (AISBOF).[1][2]
Positions
Roy was re-elected general secretary of AIBOC at its 13th Triennial General Council Meeting in Guwahati in July 2024.[3] In November 2024, AISBOF elected him as its general secretary, and he assumed office on 1 December 2024.[4] In June 2025, he was re-elected as general secretary of AISBOF for the 2025–2028 term at the federation's triennial general council in Hyderabad.[5]
Public statements and union activity
In July 2023, Roy said that public sector banks were in "real danger of privatisation" and linked the issue to bank nationalisation.[6] In August 2024, he said that bank staff unions would raise the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) with the Indian Banks' Association.[7] In December 2024, he said that AIBOC would consider an all-India bank strike if its demands were not addressed.[8] In February 2025, he said AIBOC would align its planned strike dates with the United Forum of Bank Unions for a two-day strike scheduled for 24–25 March 2025.[9]
Earlier roles
In 2020, Roy was reported as general secretary (North Eastern Circle) of the State Bank of India Officers' Association (SBIOA) and was quoted in connection with the association's representations to the Assam government about attacks on bank officers and the killing of an SBI officer in Assam.[10][11]
