Santiago Torrijos Pulido is a distinguished Colombian attorney known for his expertise in Colombian criminal law, white-collar crime, compliance, constitutional law and risk mitigation, as well as complex regulatory, civil, and transnational litigation.[1] He has represented clients before the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia|Colombian Supreme Court and the Superior Tribunal of Bogota in high-profile cases. Throughout his career, he has served as both defense counsel and advocate for victims in high-stakes cases of national importance, representing business leaders, politicians, sports figures, entertainment personalities, and even Colombian prosecutors.[2][3][4][5]

Early Life and Education

Santiago Torrijos was born in Bogotá Colombia, son of Vicente Torrijos, a political analyst[6] and Marcella Pulido, a famous Colombian journalist.[7] He graduated cum laude from the Universidad de Los Andes, where he ranked first in his class.[8] He also completed an academic exchange at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS) in London, where he was awarded the Directors' List Distinction and the Best Student Prize, and served as President of the Colombian Alumni Association.[9]

He holds a Master's degree in Criminology, Delinquency and Victimology from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia in Spain, with a thesis focusing on evidentiary imbalances in the Colombian criminal justice system. He later obtained an LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he was recognized with the Dean’s List and the Excellence for the Future Award.[10]

Legal Career

Torrijos began his legal career as a Junior Associate at the Colombian, Spanish and Peruvian law firm Philippi, Prietocarrizosa, Ferrero DU & Uría[11][12] focusing on corporate and M&A matters. He then worked at Jaime Lombana Villalba & Abogados, concentrating on criminal, disciplinary, and compliance issues.[13][14]

Subsequently, he joined Mario Iguaran Abogados Asociados, working alongside former Colombian Attorney General Mario Iguaran on complex cases involving economic crimes, corruption, asset forfeiture, and human rights violations. During this period, he appeared before the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia|Colombian Supreme Court and the Superior Tribunal of Bogota in cases involving serious criminal charges, constitutional questions, and high-level white-collar matters.[15]

His international experience began with Picard Kentz & Rowe LLP in Washington, D.C., where he contributed to documenting war crimes and aiding the founding partner in developing strategies for representing victims of international human rights violations before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.[16] After graduating from American law school, he worked as a law clerk, under the guidance of famous New York attorney John Lauro on the high-profile defense of U.S. President Donald Trump in the Criminal proceedings in the January 6 United States Capitol attack.[17] Torrijos is currently engaged in serving as a legal liaison at Fridman Fels & Soto, a Miami-based law firm renowned for its expertise in complex regulatory, securities and criminal litigation.[18] Torrijos works closely with former federal prosecutors Alejandro O. Soto, Adam Fels and Daniel Fridman on cases involving investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice.[19]

Publications

Torrijos has published extensively on Latin American criminal law, transnational repression, and comparative criminal law. He is co-author of the 2024 book La Imputación with former Colombian Attorney General Mario Iguaran.[20] He has also contributed to academic works including Transnational Repression in the Age of Globalisation, collaborating with B. Donovan Picard. Additionally, he authored the 2025 book La Sombra Sin Fronteras[21] and the academic article Defiance: A Political Alternative Lost in the Sea of Juridical Traditionalism.[22]

He frequently lectures at conferences, including at Universidad de los Andes, the Colegio de Abogados Penalistas de Colombia (Colombian Criminal Law Bar), and forums on topics such as public procurement corruption, compliance and risk prevention.

Media and Public Engagement

Torrijos’s work has been featured in several media outlets. Caracol Radio highlighted his international perspective.[23] An article in Diario 2001 focused on his dedication to criminal law and his empathetic approach towards clients in cases across Latin America.[24]

La FM and RCN Radio reported on his participation in the defense team of President Donald Trump.[25][26]

Personal Life

Torrijos speaks five languages[27] and has practiced Taekwondo since childhood. He is a founding member of the Colegio de Abogados Penalistas de Colombia (Colombian Criminal Law Bar) He has led anti-bullying initiatives and participated in rebuilding a school in Golfo de Morrosquillo,a conflict-affected region of Colombia. Beyond his legal career, he describes himself as an entrepreneur of the law and an international media leader, committed to maintaining a balance of integrity and professional excellence.[28]
