Simran Kaur is a New Zealand financial educator, author and podcaster. She is the founder of Friends That Invest, formerly known as Girls That Invest, a financial education platform that developed from a podcast she co-founded in 2020.[1][2]
Early life and education
Kaur studied optometry at the University of Auckland. While studying she completed a certificate in Financial Markets through Yale University. She later worked as an optometrist before moving into financial education full-time.[3]
Career
In 2020, Kaur and her childhood friend Sonya Gupthan launched the Girls That Invest Podcast, focusing on investing and personal finance for women.[1][2][4]
Kaur later left her career in optometry to work on Girls That Invest full time. The project expanded beyond the podcast into a financial education course, newsletter and other digital content.[5]
In 2022, Kaur published Girls That Invest: Your Guide to Financial Independence through Shares and Stocks through Wiley.[6]
Girls that Invest was renamed Friends That Invest. Kaur has continued to work under the Friends That Invest name as a financial educator, author and podcast host.[7]
Recognition
In 2024, Kaur was named Young New Zealander of the Year as part of the New Zealander of the year Awards.[8] She was also awarded first place for Oceania at the 2024 Cartier Women's Initiative awards.[9]
