Staycation is an American lifestyle and travel unscripted television series created by The Destination Channel [1]. The series focuses on showcasing unique vacation rentals across the United States and international destinations. Each episode presents a travel experience through the lens of local hosts and property owners. The show airs on local CBS affiliates in the United States and is available for streaming on platforms including Pluto TV, Roku, Amazon Prime Video, and Amazon Fire TV. Since its debut, the series has won five Regional Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pacific Southwest Chapter.

The flagship series is hosted by Robert Parks-Valletta. Several spinoffs have been developed under the Staycation brand, including Staycation Sports, hosted by Charlie Boots; Staycation Wine and Dine, hosted by Evan Michael; and Staycation International, hosted by Monica Walton.

Development and production

Staycation was developed by The Destination Channel, a U.S.-based company that produces unscripted lifestyle and travel content. On April 2, 2022, in an interview with Good Day Sacramento (CBS News), host and executive producer Robert Parks-Valletta stated that the concept for the series originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when production on other projects halted, and that he pivoted to filming vacation rentals across the United States, which remained open at the time.[2]

The show was created to showcase vacation rentals through on-location filming, with an emphasis on visual narrative and storytelling. Initially focused on destinations within the United States, the series later expanded to include international locations.

In August 2023, Staycation filmed an episode at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, highlighting the destination for regional and streaming audiences. [3]

Premise

Staycation features a variety of vacation rentals across domestic and international destinations. Each episode highlights a selected property—such as coastal homes, mountain retreats, villas, or city apartments—along with the surrounding community. The series explores local culture, landmarks, and recreational offerings, providing viewers with an overview of travel options in each region. It emphasizes short-term getaways that balance comfort, exploration, and regional character.
