Tan Taofa (Thai: แทน เท่าฟ้า; born December 9, 1988)[1] also known as Taofa Maneeprasopchok (Thai: เท่าฟ้า มณีประสพโชค) is a Thai actor and singer. He was formerly a member of the band "New Folder" under Garden Music, a subsidiary of RS Group.[2] He gained recognition for the role "Richard Loeb" from Thrill Me The Musical (Bangkok)[3] and was selected as one of Cleo Thailand's 50 Most Eligible Bachelors in 2018.[4]
Early life
Tan Taofa was born on December 9, 1988. He was graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University|Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University in 2014, majoring in Industrial Design.[5] During his college, he was a member of CU Band (Chula University Band) as a lead singer.[1]
To get a musical theatre education, Tan attended the Circle in the Square Theatre School, New York City, in United States, in the class of 2016.[6]
Career
Music
In 2013, Tan was scouted and invited to join Garden Music, a subsidiary of RS Group, then formed a band named "New Folder" consist of four members: Fai Patthaya Vasanasiri, Tan Taofa Maneeprasopchok,Ozone Satachai Tippawat, and Thurs Panupak Choknakawaro.[7] They released two original singles; "รักเธอตัวเป็นเกลียว (Too Busy Loving You)" and "ไม่โกรธความรัก (The Memories)" which he sings as a lead singer and guitarist.[2]
The New Folder then disbanded in 2015.[8]
Acting
Tan made his first appearance on musical play in 2012 as an ensemble in Reya The Musical, a musical based on famous television series "Doksom Sithong" and music director by Somtow Sucharitkul, starring Araya A. Hargate and Myra Molloy as adult and young Reya respectively.[9] He also joined the cast of Neung Nai Duang Jai Suntaraporn The Musical in the same year.[10]
In 2014, after his debut with New Folder, he was cast as Guangxu Emperor in a historical musical play Cixi Taihou The Musical, which H.R.H. Princess Soamsawali gracefully joined and portrayed the role of Cixi Taihou's mother, to raise fund for the Friends In Need (of “Pa”) Foundation, Thai Red Cross Society[11]
During his time in New York City, Tan joined the cast of two Off-Broadways; Comfort Women: A New Musical, written and directed by Dimo Hyun Jun Kim,[12] and The Pearl Diver, directed by Andrea Andresakis, as "The Emperor".[13] Moreover, Tan also made his first appearance on US screen, as a small role, in Broad City[14] and Gypsy.[15]
In 2017, he reappeared in the first Broadway-standard theatre production in Thailand, Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre,[16] in Four Reign The Legend Musical.[17] He then continuously appeared on their stage productions in 2018; Still on My Mind The Musical (honoring the legacy of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej),[18] as an ensemble, and was cast as an understudy of Mak, the lead male character, in Mae Nak Phra Khanong': The Musical.[19]
In 2018, besides his musical shows at Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre, he was selected as one of Cleo Thailand's 50 Most Eligible Bachelors in 2018,[4] and cast as Tawat in a soap opera television series Sai Rak Sai Sawat (สายรักสายสวาท) aired on One31. Following his appearance on the series, he then appeared in many television series in various channels in Thailand until now.[1]
In 2023, Tan has made his first appearance on film in Thailand as Nut in Home for Rent from GDH 559. In the same year, he was also cast as Kham Duang in The Magic Seeds[20] and "The Protagonist" in No Devil Lived On, an honorable mentioned short film in IndieX Film Fest, Los Angeles.[21] Tan also dubbed the Thai version of Walt Disney Animation Studios' Wish.[22]
Following his role in films, he was cast in the Bangkok production of the Off-Broadway show; Thrill Me: Leopold & Loeb Story The Musical, written by Stephen Dolginoff, as Richard Loeb.[3] Adapted and directed by Patsupang Kongbumrung and translated by Tanee Poonsuwan, the musical play performed by only two actors and one pianist was sold-out and received praise from various media outlets in Thailand.[23][24]
In 2024, he was invited to take a role of Khram in The Little Tigers for Korea, directed by Pattarasuda Anuman Rajadhon, a play celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand and the 65th anniversary of Korea-Thailand relations. The production was staged in Bangkok, Thailand, then also performed in Seoul and Pocheon, South Korea.[25][26]
