Tim Zadorozhnyy (Ukrainian: Задорожний Тимур; born 2005) is a Ukrainian journalist. He is a reporter[1] [2] for the Kyiv Independent, an English-language Ukrainian news outlet, where he covers foreign policy, U.S.–Ukraine relations, and political developments in Europe and Russia.

Early life and education

Zadorozhnyy was born in Odesa, Ukraine, where he completed his secondary education. In 2023, he moved[3] to Warsaw, Poland, to pursue higher education. He enrolled at Lazarski University, studying International Relations and European Studies in a program offered in partnership with Coventry University.

Career

Zadorozhnyy began his journalism career in 2022 at IT-3, a local television channel in Odesa, where he worked as a journalist.

After relocating to Poland, he joined[4] the Belarusian independent media outlet NEXTA. During his tenure of approximately one and a half years, he worked as a news anchor[5], hosting news programs, producing interviews[6], and covering[7] regional political developments. In November 2024, Zadorozhnyy joined the Kyiv Independent as a news editor[8], reporting on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, international politics[9][10][11][12], and security issues[13]. He later advanced to the position of reporter. In this role, he contributes news reporting and analysis[14][15] for the outlet’s website and conducts interviews for the Kyiv Independent’s YouTube channel.

His interviews have included current and former officials and public figures, such as Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže[16], former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer[17], Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur[18], and Nate Vance[19], a former volunteer fighter in Ukraine and cousin of U.S. Vice President JD. Vance, Keith Kellogg[20], formerly U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy on Ukraine.

White House Controversy

In January 2026, Zadorozhnyy's reporting[21][22][23][24] for The Kyiv Independent addressed statements made by an unnamed senior U.S. envoy involved in diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine. The article reported that the envoy made inaccurate claims regarding Ukraine's political system and the timeline of the war.

Following the publication, the White House issued a statement[25] criticizing Zadorozhnyy's reporting. Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said that comment had not been sought from the administration prior to publication and described the report as misleading, while emphasizing the efforts of President Donald Trump and his team to pursue peace initiatives.
