Timothy Noon (b.1974) is a British organist, conductor and composer. He is currently Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, a post he has held since 2016.[1]
As a child, Noon was a chorister at Hereford Cathedral, before holding organ scholarships at Canterbury Cathedral, and at Christ Church, Oxford, where he also read music. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists in 1993.[2] After gaining his First Class degree, he became Sub-Organist at St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, before returning to Canterbury Cathedral as Assistant Organist in 1997. In 2001, he was appointed Director of Music and Master of the Choristers at St David's Cathedral in Wales, where he remained until 2007.[3] In September of that year, Noon took up the role of Director of Music and Master of the Choristers at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.[4]
In 2011, Noon moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where he had been appointed Director of Music at Holy Trinity Cathedral, a post he held until 2015.[5] During his time in New Zealand, Noon worked extensively with local musicians, serving on the council of the Australia and New Zealand College of Organists[6] and on the governing body of the New Zealand Choral Federation.[1]
He received an honourary ARSCM in 2007, and in 2011 became a Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians.[7] As of 2025 he is president of the Cathedral Organists Association.[8]
Noon's compositions and arrangements have been published by Encore,[9] RSCM[10] and Novello.[11] He also appears on a wide range of recordings and broadcasts as both a conductor and organist.[12] He is active as a solo organist and has performed in a range of venues across England and New Zealand.[1]
Noon currently lives in Exeter, England, with his New Zealand wife.
