Vikrant Gupta (born 12 January 1973 in Amritsar, Punjab, India) is an Indian sports journalist and media personality best known as the Sports Editor for the TV Today Group, including networks like Aaj Tak and India Today.[1] Renowned for his cricket commentary and analytical reporting, he has solidified his reputation as a trusted voice in sports journalism.[2][3][4]

Early Life and Education

Born in Amritsar, Gupta completed his schooling at Christ High School before moving with his family to Chandigarh at around age seven. He went on to attend DAV College, Chandigarh, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English (Honors), followed by a Master’s degree in English Literature, and later a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, all from Panjab University between 1991 and 1997.

Journalism Career

Gupta began his journalism career in May 1997 with The Indian Express as a Special Correspondent. In January 2003, he joined the TV Today Group (publisher of Aaj Tak and India Today) where he was appointed as Senior Editor (Sports) and continued to rise to the role of Sports Editor.[5]

He became widely known for hosting and analyzing major cricketing events on television, including matches in the 2007 World Cup, the 2017 Champions Trophy, and the 2018 Asia Cup. Gupta also hosted the Hindi cricket talk show SalaamCricket, conducting interviews with cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, M.S. Dhoni, Shane Warne, Brian Lara, and Michael Clarke.[6]

Gupta made a notable appearance as a guest contestant—and later as a member of the expert panel—on the Indian TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He also delivered a TEDx talk at DAV College, Chandigarh, in September 2019.[7]
