OccupationPolitician

Vivek Bali is an Indian politician who serves as president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP). He was previously associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as an officeholder in the Jammu and Kashmir unit of Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)).[1][2]

Political career

Bali began his political career with the BJP, where he held organisational responsibilities in the party's Kashmir Displaced District unit. His reported positions included youth vice-president of the district unit and district media secretary for Anantnag.[1][3]

In 2021, Bali left the BJP and joined JD(U). He initially served as the party's state secretary in Jammu and Kashmir and was subsequently appointed state general secretary.[1][3]

On 31 August 2024, JD(U) suspended Bali from the party's primary membership for alleged anti-party activities. The action followed public comments attributed to him concerning the release of stone-pelters and political prisoners.[4]

On 5 May 2025, Bali joined the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party at an event in Lucknow attended by the party's national president, Om Prakash Rajbhar.[5] He subsequently became president of the party's Jammu and Kashmir unit.[2][6]

As president, Bali has participated in efforts to expand the party's district-level organisation in Jammu and Kashmir. In June 2026, he attended an organisational meeting in Bandipora during which new members joined the party. At the meeting, he stated that SBSP intended to field candidates in forthcoming urban local body and panchayat elections.[6][7]

Political positions and activities

Bali has publicly called for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. In August 2025, he urged the central government to fulfil its commitment to restore statehood and said that SBSP could organise peaceful protests if the process was delayed.[8]

He has also advocated measures relating to the rehabilitation and economic welfare of displaced Kashmiri Pandits. His stated positions have included increased monthly relief assistance, employment opportunities and a rehabilitation programme addressing housing, security, education and healthcare.[2][1]

In April 2026, Bali called for the creation of 20,000 employment opportunities for members of the displaced community.[7]

In December 2025, Bali appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to allow small vendors operating at Landa Mall in Jammu to continue earning their livelihood. He proposed designated vending areas and a regularisation mechanism intended to balance urban regulation with the economic needs of vendors.[9]

In June 2026, Bali led an anti-drug awareness programme at Dal Lake. The event was organised in support of the Jammu and Kashmir administration's Nasha Mukt J&K – 100 Days Abhiyan campaign.[10]
