Yoan Atanasov Bornosuzov (Bulgarian: Йоан Атанасов Борносузов; born 9 January 2004) is a Bulgarian First League club Botev Vratsa on loan from CSKA Sofia.[1]
Club career
As a youth player, Bornosuzov began his football development in the academy of CSKA Sofia, where he quickly established himself as a promising forward known for his pace, positioning, and finishing ability. His consistent goal-scoring performances at youth level attracted the attention of several European clubs, and at the age of 17 he joined Italian side Genoa C.F.C., becoming one of the few Bulgarian attackers to move to Serie A’s youth system at such an early stage of his career.[2] During his first season in Italy, he helped Genoa’s Under-18 team win the Campionato Nazionale Under-18, contributing both goals and assists throughout the campaign.
Across his time in Genoa’s youth academy, Bornosuzov made 102 appearances and scored 25 goals in all youth competitions, displaying versatility across the forward line and a strong work rate off the ball. His performances earned him recognition within the club’s Primavera structure and inclusion in first-team training sessions.
In July 2024, Bornosuzov returned to CSKA Sofia, with Genoa reportedly retaining a percentage of his future transfer rights.[3] Upon his return, he was assigned to CSKA II, competing in Bulgaria’s Second Professional Football League, where he scored 13 goals in 29 appearances during the 2024–25 season, finishing among the team’s top scorers.[4]
Following his strong form and steady progression, Bornosuzov was promoted to the CSKA Sofia first team at the start of the 2025–26 season, marking a key milestone in his career and his full integration into senior professional football with the club where he first began.[5] Bulgarian sports outlets have since identified him as one of the most promising young forwards in domestic football.
International career
Bornosuzov was called up to the Bulgaria U17 national team. He made eight appearances for the Bulgaria U19 team and one for the Bulgaria U20 squad. He made his debut for the Bulgaria U21 national team on September 10, 2024, in a 3–1 loss to Poland.[6]
